History
Robert Beauclerk Loder CBE (24 April 1934 – 22 July 2017) was a collector, businessman and supporter of artists. He co-founded the Triangle network with the sculptor Anthony Caro in 1982, after the pair developed the idea of intensive workshops for professional artists.
The first Triangle workshop was held that summer at Pine Plains, New York. Related workshops followed in southern Africa and elsewhere, including Pachipamwe, Thupelo and later gatherings at Shave Farm in Somerset. In 1994 Loder founded Gasworks in London, which became a principal hub of the network.
In 1959 he founded the African Arts Trust. He served as treasurer and later chairman of the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and was appointed CBE in 1989.
Trends mean nothing to Robert Loder. Abstract Expressionism was his great love and he wants us to share it.

Collecting philosophy
The collection was formed through proximity to artists rather than through a museum programme. Workshops, residencies and artist-led spaces were the context in which many works were made, seen and acquired.
This website does not enlarge that history into something it was not. It offers a public way into a private holding: slower than an institution, closer than a storehouse.
Research & scholarship
Editorial notes, catalogues and related publications sit alongside the works as they are prepared. Until then, the catalogue itself — artist, title, date, medium, and any recorded notes — is the primary document.
Loans & exhibitions
Works from the collection have appeared in public exhibitions. Where an exhibition history is recorded against an object, it is shown on the artwork page. Empty fields are omitted rather than filled.
